Event Overview
Join Cinematographer Alister Chapman as he explores the facts and myths behind sensor size in this workshop follow-up to his popular webinar session.
In recent years there has been a move from traditional sized 1/2” and 2/3” sensor to larger super 35mm sensors for many types of video production, not just digital cinema. But is this always the best way to go? Large sensors are certainly fashionable but are they right for you and the types of productions you produce?

Seeing is Believing

Using practical examples and live product demonstrations Alister will show both the benefits and limitations of large sensor cameras. See for yourself the facts behind this fashionable trend and discover if using large sensor cameras is right for you and the types of productions you produce.

We are running two identical sessions with plenty of time for you to get your hands on the kit and see the differences between standard and large size sensor cameras. We will be comparing the PXW-Z280 with Super 35mm Camcorders like the PXW-FS7 & PXW-FS5, and looking at the merits of each in different applications.

You will leave this session with:
  • The truth behind sensor size
  • The history of video camera sensor sizes
  • Where the different sizes come from
  • Why the shift towards larger sensors?
  • The strengths of a larger sensor
  • Why zoom lens options are limited with larger sensors
  • The strengths of a smaller sensor
  • Which new sensor technologies are narrowing the performance gap
  • If there any point to a large sensor camera?
  • What a small sensor camera can do that a large sensor can’t?

This event is suitable for anyone who is interested in discovering the benefits and downside of large sensors. It is particularly relevant to people who are thinking of renting or buying a camera with a large sensor. Filmmakers, Cinematographers, DoP's, camera operators, freelancers, Producers, Directors.
